With one week left and counting, the ladies of TLC are on that good promo run in anticipation of the VH1 original movie, their biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. T-Boz and Chilli made their first appearance on Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club for a radio interview that was entertaining, informative and straight up real. So real that their salty ass ex-manager who did them wrong (and L.A. Reid‘s ex-wife), Pebbles, could be suing them for “character slander” even though it’s the God-honest truth that she basically raped them over. She even made them buy back their name for one million dollar a letter, with her pocketing a cool $3million from the situation smh.
They also praised the performances of Drew Sidora, Lil Mama and Keke Palmer for their portrayal of the legendary group, while Charlamagne praised Chilli’s baby hairs!
I LOVE them and their honesty, especially T-Boz’s! I just wish Angela Yee and DJ Envy would STOP giving away the movie dammit! But anywho, catch their two-and-a-half hour movie on VH1 October 21st at 9PM ET and make sure to pick up their new greatest hits compilation/soundtrack 20, in stores now via LaFace/Epic.
She just released her sophomore album Love and War a month ago in September after a 13-year pause between that and her self-titled debut, but now Tamar Braxton is already about to release new music – Christmas music that is!
Tamar will release her first Christmas effort titled Winter Loverland on November 11th via Streamline/Epic Records and will feature 10 tracks. Of the ten songs, “She” will take on holiday classics including “Santa Baby” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” as well as original tunes such as “She Can Have You” and “No Gift.” And there will be some Braxton family action on the disc, because she collaborates with her sister Trina on a remake of “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” (can’t wait to hear that one!).
Tamar’s Love and War album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart with first week sales of 115,000. She’s also gearing up to head out on tour with John Legend for the Made To Love Tour, kicking off on October 20th.
Winter Loverland Tracklisting
1. “Sleigh Ride”
2. “Santa Baby”
3. “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”
4. “No Gift”
5. “Away in a Manger”/”Little Drummer Boy”
6. “Merry Christmas Darling”
7. “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” feat. Trina Braxton
8. “She Can Have You”
9. “Silent Night”
10. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”
With Mary J. Blige releasing her Christmas album and now Tamar, this is going to be one great season of holiday music from R&B. But Tamar, where the hell is the “All the Way Home” video??? And also when I think of winter and whatnot, I just automatically think of Tamar’s old video for “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me” with the snow and all. Y’all don’t know nothing about that. But of all the songs, I’m ready to hear her take on “Away In A Manger.” That song ain’t ever been the same after Ciara decided she was against the birth of Jesus with her version.
No people, you’re not trippin’. I had to break into the Google Image vault from 2005 to find a picture from that time frame to match up to this next story I’m about to tell you all.
It’s 2013. Kanye West is currently on his sixth studio album, Yeezus, which was released back in June and he’s about to head out on the Yeezus Tour beginning October 19th in Seattle. If you happen to be a music head like me and follow the Billboard charts religiously, you’d notice that on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Kanye has a song titled “Gone” featuring Cam’ron and former artist Consequence sitting pretty in the top 20 of this week’s newly published chart.
No folks, it’s not a brand new recording. This is the very same “Gone” that was first found on Ye’s sophomore album Late Registration, released back in 2005. So, what would prompt a song that wasn’t even a single when the album was out to somehow out of no where debut at #18 on the Hot 100 chart and none of the Yeezus tracks can even hit the top 50?
Well he’s what happened: the song’s newfound revival started when Marina Shifrin, a writer and comedian, quit her job as a video editor by creating a video for her boss in which she dances around her deserted office (at 4:30 in the morning mind you) to the appropriately-themed “Gone.”
Because the video, which has garnered almost 16 million views, has become such a viral hit (and great promo tool for Kanye – #GETPROMO!), it prompted the track’s debut into the top 20 of the Hot 100 – EIGHT YEARS LATER!
Due to Billboard’s new charting policy that took place earlier this year, online streaming via YouTube plays a HUGE factor into chart positions on the chart nowadays.
Digital sales of “Gone” even spiked from minuscule levels in the previous week to 9,000 in this week’s sales tracking frame, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Overall usage of “Gone” across these videos on YouTube pulled in 6.2 million U.S. streams for the song, according to Nielsen BDS, enough to send the eight year-old track onto the Streaming Songs chart at number 4.
“Gone” even makes it’s grand debuts on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at #6 and Rap Songs chart at #4.
Because of it’s #18 opening, “Gone” becomes Yeezy’s 22nd top 20 hit and 59th song to chart on the Hot 100.
The power of streams! It’s cool to also see those two other lessors get some shine for the moment too with a top 20 hit. Now let me go pull out my Late Registration CD to blast on my way to work
Now that she has unveiled the cover art a couple of days ago, Lady Gaga has now revealed the official tracklist for her upcoming third studio album ARTPOP.
Described as “…a love affair with electronic music,” ARTPOP will feature tracks such as lead single “Applause,” the new single “Aura,” as well as “Donatella,” which was named after the Versace designer. But it’s the guest stars of the album that comes as a shock. She teams up with R. Kelly on “Do What U Want,” while T.I., Too $hort, and Twista rap on “Jewels N’ Drugs.”
This album already seems like it’s gonna be waaaaayyyy better than that Born This Way mess. Not only that, but I’m really curious to hear what the R. Kelly track sounds like! And I see she paid “Applause” dust by making it the last track, even though it’s a top-ten hit.
4. “Sexxx Dreams”
5. “Jewels N’ Drugs” featuring T.I., Too $hort, and Twista
7. “Do What U Want” featuring R. Kelly
12. “Mary Jane Holland”
ARTPOP hits stores on November 11th via Interscope Records.
There are those many, many times when we all may take jabs here and there at our favorite celebrities on Twitter – sometimes out of love, sometimes just because, other times just because it’s true. So right before Kanye West made his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to have his face-to-face with Jimmy, the show decided to remix it’s “Mean Tweets” segment and did a “Mean Tweets – Music Edition” to get the ball rolling.
Some of music’s biggest stars read some actual tweets they’ve received aloud. John Legend was accused of crying during sex, Lil Wayne was called a “crabapple” (whatever that is), and Pharrell was compared to a sewer rat (no judgement here). But the funniest was when 2 Chainz was compared to Whoopi Goldberg, which he didn’t take too kindly. “Get the fuck outta here,” he said in his response.
Other artists that reacted to their “fans” on Twitter includes including Big Sean, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Backstreet Boys, Ke$ha, Selena Gomez, John Mayer, and a few others. It’s cool to see they we’re all good sports about it, well everyone except 2 Chainz LoL!
Kanye West has been one to never hold his tongue for anyone. So it was surprise that Ye went into a Twitter war last week with Jimmy Kimmel after the comedian spoofed Kanye’s epic BBC interview with Zane Lowe on his late-night talk show. In true Yeezy fashion, that didn’t go over well with the rapper and unleashed a fury of tweets about Jimmy.
But surprisingly, Kanye decided to come on Jimmy Kimmel Live to face the talk-show host one-on-one after the incident, and boy did it make for great (and interesting) TV!
Decked out in his freshest Ralph Lauren fits, Mr. West talked about of course his anger towards the paparazzi and why they provoke him to wild out at them, his genius mind state, defending his lady Kim Kardashian and also promoting the upcoming Yeezus Tour, which kicks off October 19th in Seattle with Kendrick Lamar.
But with every great Kanye interview comes the GIF worthy moments and memorable quotes. Other than the crut in the corner of his mouth and the piece of lint on his head that wouldn’t let him be great, Kanye delivered the BEST death stare of all time!
As for some of the highlight quotes from the interview (which caused Jimmy to re-schedule the rest of that night’s guests to the next night #KanyePOWER):
Kanye reacts to talk his feud with Kimmel was a publicity stunt:
“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life… I don’t follow rules of normal celebrity.”
Kanye on his public image:
“I’m not running for office. You know what I’m saying? I’m just here to make good music, make people feel good when they hear my music. And you know, when I did that interview, I was really vocal about a lot of things I had been dealing with over the past 10 years when I was putting in the classification of ‘just a celebrity’ because for me, you know, I’m a creative genius and there’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself, and I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive.”
On plenty of people who call themselves geniuses:
“For me to say I wasn’t a genius I would just be lying to you and myself.”
Kim Kardashian getting rejected by the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame committee:
“People are so, so dated…there’s no way a Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame.”
On the struggles in creative fields, and past issues coming up in Chicago:
“There’s no black guy at the end of the runway in Paris. All we wanna do is make awesome stuff. I refuse to follow those rules that society has set up and the way that they can control people with low self-esteem… It’s about truth, it’s about information, it’s about awesomeness, and the only luxury is time.
It’s not about racism anymore. It’s classism………I’m not into all that snobbery.
Creatives have gotten beat up my entire life. There’s moments when I stood up to drug dealers in Chicago and said ‘you can’t have my publishing, come and kill me.’”
The paparazzi invading his privacy:
“We bring something of joy to the world. When people listen to my music, they have a good time, and I should be respected as such when I walk down the street…Don’t try and antagonize me because you know what? It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second,” but also: “You do help me get money, paparrazzi. You show people how fresh my outfit is.”
But the most epic of the quotes from the conversation was when Yeezus had to remind these folk he’s from Chicago and the Chi-town side of him came prepared for war.
“And the way paparazzi talk to me and my family is disrespectful. We bring something of joy to the world. When people hear my music, they have a good time. And I should be respected as such when I walk down the street. Don’t try to antagonize me. Because you know what, it’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second.”

There’s almost a month left until Lady Gaga releases her third studio album ARTPOP, and now the singer has premiered a new track from the upcoming disc.
Gaga teams up with EDM producer of the moment Zedd on the dance-infused track “Aura,” which is now rumored to be the second single lifted from the album. That could be true, as Gaga released a lyric video featuring scenes from the upcoming movie Machete Kills, in which she also stars alongside Charlie Sheen, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Hudgens and Michelle Rodriguez.
The movie looks very promising. I think I’m one of the few that liked Grindhouse (even though it flopped) so to see this as a full movie is awesome. As for the song, I can kinda dig it. I just gotta give it a few more listens. But this lyric video is the coolest I’ve seen in a while.
Machete Kills hits theaters on October 11th, while ARTPOP hits stores on November 11th.
Get that promo! For the first time last night (10/9), Toni Braxton and Babyface gave the first televised performance of their new single “Hurt You” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Mr. Edmonds was clad in all black everything while Toni looked oh-so-great in her gold short dress and bringing back her short cut.
This performance gave me so much 90s nostalgic realness. It’s great to see these two team up together after years of Babyface penning and producing hits for Toni and basically launching her career alongside L.A. Reid when they signed her to LaFace Records over 20 years ago. That’s called legendary status to still be able to pull promo like this on a major late night show and still be relevant all these years later. This is what you call R&B folks!
“Hurt You” serves as the lead single from their joint album titled Love, Marriage, Divorce, which will basically be a real talk on the ups and downs of relationships. Originally due out in stores on December 3rd, the album has now been bumped up to a new release date on November 25th via Motown Records.
While we all just got over the ratchetness that was Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, there’s always a time a point where it has to be taken back to it’s original core root – Love & Hip Hop New York.
The drama from the empire state returns for a fourth season on VH1 on October 28th and it looks like some things are going to get real good this season, along with some new additions and subtracted hoes.
So from the clip, you all can see that K. Michelle has joined the New York cast since she now lives in the city – but only as a contractual obligation since she’s getting her own VH1 spin-off show and won’t be involved in much of the fuckery on the show other than calling Erica Mena a goat. Speaking of, the singer of the classic “Where Do I Go From Here” and her ex Rich Dollaz make a return too – but not together. It looks as though Erica has dipped her tongue into the lady pond and is getting cozy with who looks like Stephanie from Bad Girls Club season 10.
Rich’s homeboy Peter Gunz shimmied his way into the show last season and it looks like he’ll have a nice regular role on this season with his own storyline. Also new to the scene is Amina, who was formally a member of the flop sister trio Black Buddafly (who we’re once upon a time signed to Russell Simmons Music Group) before the two twin sisters became a duo (but they had a couple of hot joints). Yandy Smith is still holding it down for her baby’s faaawtha Mendeecees back at home while he’s doing some time. Then there’s Joe Budden and Tahiry, who seems to be on again, but of course, there’s always going to be some drama with their relationship.
So who got cut you ask? It looks like they FINALLY gave Oliver – I mean – Olivia the boot with her boring ass and non-existent story line with a career going nowhere from here. Also joining her on the Double Dutch Bus are Jen the Pen and her man and human chomper Consequence (even though they had a decent storyline), Winter Ramos (who tried to be great like Superhead and write a tell-all book but flopped), Ronald McDonald’s twin, the red rooster herself Racqui Thunda, “rapper” Loreal and Joe Budden’s ex play thing Kailyn.
This shall be an interesting season. Oh and also returning is the second season of the OG’s from LAHH:NY, Chrissy and Mr. Jones on the same night. Looks like my ratchet Monday nights will still be in tact!
Here it is people! With just a week until they release their greatest hits compilation 20 to commemorate twenty years since the release of their debut album Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip, TLC has premiered the set’s lone new track, titled “Meant To Be.”
The Ne-Yo-penned mid-tempo track, which see’s the singer providing some background harmonies, also serves as the tagline for the legendary group’s upcoming VH1 biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story and plays at the ending credits for the film premiering on the network on Monday, October 21st at 9 PM ET.
Just hearing new music from TLC is always a great feeling with me being a 90s baby and all. T-Boz and Chilli really sound great on this track! The song kinda reminds me of something the group would’ve recorded as a track on their FanMail or 3D albums because of the vibe of it. Definitely a good listen.
TLC has been gaining some new success this year as J. Cole released his single “Crooked Smile” with the group late summer. With it’s push to Pop radio and the video release a couple of weeks ago, the single has since peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming TLC’s highest charting single in over a decade since their 3D-lead single “Girl Talk” peaked at #28 on that chart back in 2002.
With 20 being released on October 15th via LaFace/Epic Records, the album sees the group reuniting with their original boss L.A. Reid. The group has also recording their fifth studio album, the first to not feature any vocals from group member Left Eye who tragically died in 2002. They’ve been in the studio with Rock City, Drake, and their original producer Dallas Austin.
With just 35 days left until it’s release, Lady Gaga has FINALLY unveiled the official cover art for her upcoming third studio album ARTPOP.
Featuring the top-ten single “Applause,” the Jeff Koons-designed artwork made it’s grand debut via a billboard in Times Square on Monday (10/7). A naked-sculptured version of Gaga grabs onto her jiggah-jahs while covered by a Jeff Koons gazing ball. Botticelli’s iconic Birth of Venus painting can be seen in the collage behind her.
“I’m nervous&excited to share something that’s such a piece of my heart. Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his,” tweeted Gaga.
The album is due November 11th and also includes the proposed second single “Sex Dreams” and “Jewels and Drugs” featuring Too $hort, T.I., and Twista.
I really like this cover a lot. WAAAAYYYY better than that Born This Way mess (musically and visually in my opinion).
Paris Hilton makes her grand Cash Money debut with her brand new single “Good Time,” which was produced by Afrojack and features a new boss Lil Wayne.
For the Hannah Lux Davis-directed video, the heiress-turned-major business woman parties all through the night with a massive pool party, glow sticks and of course, pink Solo cups. Her boss Birdman also makes a cameo in the clip.
What type of electro bop? Don’t judge me, but I kinda actually dig this song. This is the type of track you’ll here while you’re doing your sales rack shopping at H&M. Being that Paris is the latest in celebrities to turn into a legit DJ (and I do mean legit – she has actual sold-out shows worldwide), it was only right that her new music takes on the Dance/EDM craze that’s been sweeping the world for the last couple of years.
After releasing her debut album Paris in 2006, Miss Hilton will release her sophomore album in early 2014 via her new deal with Cash Money Records, with production and features by RedOne, Flo Rida and Snoop Dogg.
The Christmas holiday is quickly approaching us, so it’s about that time for new holiday music to make it’s yearly rounds.
Mary J. Blige takes on the holiday classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” the lead offering from her first Christmas album cleverly titled A Mary Christmas. Mary puts her own soulful spin behind the classical musical backdrop that just makes you want to cozy up next to a fireplace (or space heater) and sip some Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa.
Loving Mary’s version of the song! Everyone knows I’m a sucker for Christmas and Christmas music, so it just makes me want to head to Willow Grove Mall and shop (bypassing Bloomingdales) till I drop on gifts!
This isn’t Mary’s first foray into holiday music. Back when she was going through her struggles, she did a street rendition of Stevie Wonder’s classic “Someday At Christmas” in the mid 90s.
For her first Christmas LP, Mary collaborates with some of the greats like Barbra Streisand and Chris Botti on “When You With Upon a Star,” and even teams up with Jesse J and Marc Anthony. One track that seems to be missing is one with Marc’s ex Jennifer Lopez, who revealed a few months ago that she recorded a track with the Queen of Hip Hop/Soul for her Xmas album.
A Mary Christmas, which features productions by the legendary David Foster, hits stores on October 15th via her imprint Matriarch and Verve/Interscope Records.
